An Abbreviated History of The Infamous Dicks…

Back at IUP in the late 80s when the Clarks were starting up, Scott and Rob began doing acoustic shows of mainly cover songs. That tradition continued in Pittsburgh in the early 90s and we found a name for what we were doing, The Dick Clarks. We started doing weekly shows at Nick’s Fat City in Pittsburgh and the legend of the Dicks was born. Rob’s brother Ryan joined as our percussionist and by the late 90s Greg was playing bass and singing too. What started as a mellow show of earnest covers by the likes of Peter Case and Blue Rodeo soon devolved into a raucous night of 80s tunes, TV theme songs and re-worked Clarks classics, punctuated by one-liners and shots of Jager.

A year or so ago the Dick Clark Company sent us a ceast and desist letter telling us that we were having waaaay too much fun using Mr. Clark’s name and to stop using it now. So we conducted an exhaustive search, vetting many candidates, and came up with the Infamous Dicks (thanks Nikki). Ryan no longer provides the groove, but we still bring da funk.

See you around.

Love,
The Dicks
